scenic not starting.

hello.

about 3 weeks ago i tried to start the car and it took ages. just kept turning over but not starting. it did after about 10 mins and didnt do it again until monday of this week. now its everytime i try to start the car. i read a few posts on here that seem to point to the immobiliser being the problem. i have a scenic 2000 w-reg 1.6 16v mk1 facelift. it has the chip in the key and transponder type of immobiliser. have tried the locking and unlocking and taking out the key and putting it back in and this works sometimes but not everytime. have also tried using the spare key to check if the key i was using was faulty.

what else could have gone wrong with it? do the ignition barrel transponders ever break? and how do i check if it is actually the immobiliser and not another fault?

Re: scenic not starting.

If the immobiliser works properly the red light on the dash slows down or stops (can't remember which) just after turning the ignition on.
Maybe its worth checking your top dead center sensor as they can cause starting problems and its easy to get at and clean there will be a picture if you search TDC sensor, I keep meaning to look at mine!

Re: scenic not starting.

To add I don't know if the scenic tdc sensor is in the same place as the Laguna but if it is, it'll be on the gearbox housing underneath the undertray

Re: scenic not starting.

Unbolt then unplug it, give a small squirt of wd40 and a quick wipe
