Hi Will,

Just joined as I have the same problem with my Renault Master 2.2 DCi SM33.

When driving, the engine randomly dies completely and the dash lights come on, if I switch the ignition off & on again the thing fires up and all is ok ( Strange ) but concerning, it happened about six times today in about 130 miles, the fact that the dash lights come on indicates that it might be electrical or electronic.

A friend of mine suggests it might be the ignition switch faulty, Like to hear what you or anyone else might suggest

Yes we have the same problem with a 2.5 dci 03 plate, but it only does it when you have a 1/4 of a tank of fuel left.
If you drive it very gently it's ok but put your foot down and the engine cuts out as though you have trned the engine off or run out of fuel. Fill it up with fuel and it's fine until you get down to a 1/4 of a tank.

My Renault Master Van 2.2 DCi

Hi Ad & William,

Further to my post on the 26th Oct 06, fault being that firstly, the engine randomly cut out as if ignition switched off, if you then switched the ignition off and on again the engine would run ok for a while.

Problem became worse, to the point that whenever you tried to accellerate, even with light pressure on the pedal the engine would cut out.

Not a cheap remedy, firstly the fuel tank removed, drained and cleaned, low pressure pump checked, signes of debri in the unit, this was replaced and strainer ( Filter ), pipe from tank to high pressure pump blown thro and of course ECU cleared of fault errors, on test somewhat better but still a problem.

Next step, remove High Pressure pump, this found to have debri in the unit and the pressure was very low, this was replaced and set up, on test appeared great, have now done approx 2000 miles since cured and all appears really good.

If Renault had done the complete job approx cost would have been around £2000, I managed to find a great diesel expert to do the job for quite a bit less, depending on location I could let whoever have the details if they want.

Hope this helps others with the same fault.

Regards
