Hi guys bought myself a 1999 1.6 16v megane coupe sport. Took it to the mechanics who put new break pipes in it and the abs light came on at the rear left wheel so go a new ring on it as the old one was broke and still no joy so got a new abs sensor and still no luck I also checked the abs fuse and can't figure out what's wrong I took it to an other garage and the guy there couldn't make heads or tails of it. It has also been hooked up to a snap on computer and the and the rear left sensor is getting no signal if this helps answer my question. Thank you in advance
when the ecu faults are cleared does the fault return straight away or after some time?
If it returns straight away that would suggest that the ecu is not reading the sensor. Possibly due to damaged wiring following the brake pipe changing.
If it returns after driving then that might suggest the abs ring or and the sensor are not positioned correctly.
I assume that you checked the number of teeth on the abs ring were the same as the broken one.
The abs just stays on I don't think it's a wire problem as I've followed the wire all the to the bosh unit then up to the fuse and the teeth on the old hub was 44 so I was sure to get a new one with 44 teeth on it so its not a speed ring problem. No one knows what is up with it and I nee to take the car for its mot and it will not pass with the abs light on
Have you checked the resistance from the ABS connector-plug to each sensor ?
Pins 8-9 rear left
pins 1-3 rear right
pins 4-5 front right
pins 6-7 front left
you should get about 1.8kohms
spin each wheel it should fluctuate the resistance reading
No I haven't checked them yet! Is that the wires going to the bosh unit? And if it is the wires that are the fault do I just replace them? Thanks in advance
Yes it's the bosch unit, turn the nearside rear wheel check pin 8-9 and see if resistance fluctuates with multimeter.
You could disconnect at the sensor end and check the sensor itself by turning the hub, again you should get about 1.8kohms fluctuating when you turn the hub.
