Laguna DCi: turbo rev-up..now that is a little scary!

So, had the huge cloud of smoke a high revving engine, earlier today.

Manage to stop the car after around 20 seconds and managed to drive the 1/2 mile home.

Now car starts fine and I can't hear any nasty noises. Ticks over OK, "STOP" light flashes as you'd expect.

Obviously it smokes a bit and I assume this is from the drawn in oil into the turbo, rather than an engine fault?

Actually, before this happened I did note that if the car was stationary but ticking over for a few minutes when you pulled away and accelerate normally that it did shift a bit of smoke out the exhaust (presumably that was a tell-tell sign).

So ready to order a new turbo (expressturbos.co.uk??), I have to take this out from below the car, I've been told...easy-ish job(?) and how long normally to remove and re-fit?

Many thanks

Steve

I'd say it's the turbo too, unusually yours started up OK again.

Did you have to stall it, to stop the runaway engine?

Jeez was I lucky with a 2.2 the leaking oil seals, in the turbo were detected prior to the turbo & the engine being blown to bits, I dunno how, but it was detected during an EGR valve change.

Hi there, I had exactly the same thing with my 2.2 dci Laguna but just prior to the smoke I lost all boost.
Turns out what they call the turbo seals have gone. Now i have had problems finding a cheap enough turbo! Renault wanted £1100+VAT to fix it £575 for new turbo. I am now going to get my old turbo reconditioned.
But, getting it off is proving to be a bigger job than I was told. I was told to get it off from underneath but can I get it! The only thing I can get to is the turbo air intake the rest seems to be from above which now means taking the fuel rail of because the bolts/nuts are seized on the turbo and exhaust manifold.
I don't know if you have fixed yours yet but just wandering if you have any tips. Thanks G
