I changed the accelerator cable on my Scenic yesterday so thought I'd take pictures as I went. Hope it's useful.
You need some good string, pliers, torx T-30 and a torch.
1) Unhook the existing cable end from the top of the accelerator peddle. You need to use pliers to squash the little plastic wings on the clip so that it will go backwards through the hole.
2) Pull the plastic clip off the end of the cable. Some might not come off, but if it does you don't want it to do so now, not later.
3) Unhook the other end of the cable from the throttle leaver at the back top of the engine. You need to turn the cable upwards and slide it out sideways. If you look close there is a little slit in the lever where the cable can slide out with the lug on the end. At this point use the torch to see where the cable goes through into the car.
4) Keep the metal clip. You need it for the new cable if it didn't come with one.
5) Inside the car you can pull the end of the cable inside a bit more for easy access and tie your string to it. Do this well, because the string will help you pull the new cable back in. Tie the other end of the string to the break pedal.
6) Take off the cable clip on the left side of the engine using a Torx T-30 bit. Keep the clip somewhere safe.
7) Pull the cable into the engine bay. The string will come with it so you can find the hole again.
8) Inside the car you can see the hole above the accelerator pedal where light is now coming in. If it didn't come out with the cable you need to push the rubber grommet out of the hole so it's just bare metal.
9) Tie the string to the new cable. You can see the cable has a rubber grommet, a plastic plug that goes into it and then a rubber cover.
10) Pull the cable through the hole with the string from inside the car. Do it carefully so it doesn't catch on stuff.
11) Go the the outside of the car and push the first rubber gromet into the hole. The gromet is slightly larger than the hole so it can be tricky to get it all the way in. Be patient and keep at it. You will get it there eventually. You can check if it is all the way in from the side of the car. Actually I've already done this in the image above.
The rest is basically the reverse of what you did already.
12) Push the cable with its plastic plug into the hole and also push the rubber cover all the way up. That's the hard work done!
13) Connect the new cable to the pedal.
14) Put the cable clip on and fix it to the left side of the engine using the T-30 bit.
15) Put the cable through the hole near the throttle lever and put the lug in the lever. It might be a little stiff so wiggle it around and maybe use pliers to get the cable turned around in the lever so it goes straight.
16) Adjust the length of the new cable by moving the clip on the ridged part. I tied a bit of string around the clip to hold it stronger or if I mashed the pedal to the floor it would sometimes move.
