hi we have a renault trafic v reg(badged up as a vauxhall arena 1.9 non turbo diesel).driving along merrily when it cut out.no coughing,no spluttering just cut out.pulled over.can anybody help ,help, help????????.so far ive checked there is fuel to the pump, good supply clean, new filter no air in it.there is no fuel however to the injectors, they are bone dry.the fuel celenoid has two white wires coming from it,how do i check it???.also could it be the immobiliser, how do i check this and where is it?????.all fuses look ok etc.cam belt ok etc.please help its urgent.
As far as I am aware your vehicle doesn't have a scavenge pump but if it has it will probably be located in or around the fuel tank. You say you are getting a clean supply of fuel to the injector pump but nothing to the injectors. If you are getting an elctrical feed to the cut off valve can you hear it clicking when you connect or disconnect the power supply (could be a duff solenoid). You could also try taking out the cut-off valve and see if it moves when connected with the ignition on. Sorry but I'm not sure where the relay is situated or even if it has one - but like most renaults it is likely to be close to the main fuse box or under the bonnet.
hi thanks for that.i pulled the solonoid out it looks more involved than a normal solonoid witha a gauze filter on the shaft, the two white wires that go to the solonoid are both live, one makes a click when the ignition is turned on,the other makes a clicking sound.this happens to both when the ignition is turned on.incidently when i pump the primer with the solonoid out clean fuel runs out.
Well some good news - looks like your getting fuel into the injector pump OK - is it clean and free from air bubles. Yeh the solenoid operates a plunger which springs shut to cut off the fuel when engine is switched off - can you see anything moving. As far as I know one cable is a feed from the ignition and the other is from the pre-heater control box used when the engine is cold. As the pressure inside the injector pump are very high indeed the solenoid needs to have a very strong spring for it to close and a very strong solenoid to activate it. Any chance of borrowing another cut-off to try.
hi with the solonoid in my hand and someone operating the ignition.should i be able to physically see the plunger move?.i know you can on other makes ford etc if thats the case this one isnt moving.no air bubbles and clean fuel thanks for your help.
Yeh you should be able to see it move - sounds like you are on the right track - one other test is if it is left switched on does it get hot - that could be a sign of a duff solenoid winding. Keep us updated on any progress or lack thereof and Good Luvk!
