Renault Scenic 1.9DCi - Oil Change Info

Having read several threads on this web-site I have decided to half the oil and filter service interval of my Renault Scenic 1.9DCi.

If anybody carried out an oil change on this make and model I would appreciate any feed-back on any tricky areas of the procedure.

Is there a crush washer on the sump drain plug, and what size is it?

What is the oil quantity of this engine?

Thank you in advance for any information in this matter.

Regards,
Will.

The washer is not a crush type. It has a solid copper outer ring and inner rubber lip seal..

Oil quantity is 4.7 litres if the filter is replaced.. Use ONLY 5W40 fully synthetic...

Thank you for that information!

Is there a lot to taking the splash guard off the bottom of the engine?

In your opinion as a Renault Technician is it advisable to change the oil at this early stage - car has just done 10,000 miles mainly long motor way routes - or could this give me grief soon? I work on the logic it won't hurt to do now, but the engine sounds so quiet when warmed up suggesting that the oil still has good properties of protection.

Is there anything else you would advice changing at this point in time?

Thanks once again.
Will.

Renault Servicing intervals are TOO LONG.. As such I would recommend replacing your oil at 9K or 12 months which ever comes sooner..

You cannot Over service the car.. The fresher and cleaner the oil the better for the engine.. Especially the Turbo bearings..

But PLEASE fill with a Fully Synthetic 5W40 oil

The engine under tray is only held on by a few 10mm bolts.. You will need an 8mm square sump plug key..

Nah, Just change it.. Some may say to flush the engine, but I wouldn't bother

Yes they have on this model.. However you would have to remove the cover anyway because when you remove the oil filter you will loose a fair amount of oil. As it is the filter is a pain to get at..

Hi,

I want to do my first oil change on my 99 1.9dci RX4.

looking in the haynes manual it instructs you to prior to restarting disconnect wiring from the stop solenoid on the fuel injection pump, insulate it or remove the relay & turn the engine over a few times to prime the oil filter & put out the oil pressure light.

looking at the fuel injector pump there are 2 connectors, the one which I think is correct looks like a relay & the other is connected to a cylindrical part of the pump.

Is it necessary to do this in peoples experience & if so can anyone help me identify the correct part to disconnect.

regards

I'm told by Renault with a a dCi engine you need wait 15 minutes after the the oil change, for all the oil to bottom out in the sump.

Then before starting the engine you need also prime the oil filter, I guess you need disable the ignition and prime the oil filter using the starter.

Also make sure you don't overfill with engine oil, I'm told this is very important, but Renault did manage to overfill mine by about 5mm on the dipstick. Dipsticks.

Hi there, new to this forum, have just inherited my dads 2005 (55) scenic 1.9 dci (with DPF), im going to service it, Renault and many motor factors are saying it's a 5w30 dpf (low ash) oil, but I have seen a few posts saying to use 5w40? Can you shed any light on this and is there much of a difference in the oils?
