Hi I'm new here although been here ages reading ! I've got a 04 grand scenic that runs perfect no loss of power idles fine but just a real torture to start it starts slightly better when cold I could drive it for 50 miles without a problem until I turn it off and strate away it's hard to start takes ages. It always eventually starts but it puts up a hell of a fight can any one help it shows no engine faults on reading just the handbrake witch I've learned to live with any help is more than welcome

Do a leak off test on the injectors, you will find you have 1 or 2 failing (been there). If you still have the old fuel filter check it for iron filings.

To do a leak back test buy two packs of windscreen washer pipe from Halfords. It comes in 2 meter lengths with a 3.2mm internal diameter for £1.99. Cut it in to 4 1 meter lengths. Gather up 4 clear plastic bottles, anything will do, I used Coke bottles. Pull off the rubber return pipes from the injectors and push on the lengths of pipe. Remove the return connector from the pump and seal the hole with tape. Stand the 4 bottles on the floor in front of the bumper and feed the pipes in. Start the engine and observe the amount of fuel being returned in to the bottles. A little is ok but any injector gushing out loads is kaput. Any injector leaking nothing at all is probably stuck open and over fueling. Either way this causes your non start as the pump can't get up to pressure. This is how I did it and it worked for me. Others may say different.

Thank you so much for your detailed response I've had the pump fail so replaced all four injectors and pump and had the system cleaned a real torture of a job it ran perfect For ages this is a new thing that has started now but il try this test tomorrow and will let you know do you think the car will run perfect with this problem is it just on start up? Thanks again

Yes, I had exactly the same starting problems you describe, using Easy start to get it going. Once running it was fine except for the EML coming on under hard acceleration. I did the leak off test as described and found 2 injectors were gushing it out. Changed them for refurbs and all was good :d
