How hard is it to change the head gasket on a 1.9 DCi engine, pretty fluent with spanners and getting my hands dirty, just wondering if there are any specialist tools or methods of doing it?
Yeah no compression in two of the cylinders, no excess oil usage etc so pretty sure, I'd be unlucky if the rings had gone, and I know the turbo didn't overun the engine.
I swapped the cylinder head on my 1.6 petrol a wee while back - tricky for me (though I had some assistance). I've also been told that oil burners are harder to fo - I don't know why. The tricky bit (for me at least) was setting up the timing at the end of the job. Taking off the head and replacing the gasket is a quite straightforward spanner job.
Yeah, I reckon the compression issue is down to the head gasket, I would get my mechanic mate to sort the timing out anyway, not worth doing the job then trashing the engine for the sake of 20 quid!
Only thing I suppose is getting the manifold bolts loose and fiddly stuff like that!
