How hard is it to change the head gasket on a 1.9 DCi engine, pretty fluent with spanners and getting my hands dirty, just wondering if there are any specialist tools or methods of doing it?

Cheers

I swapped the cylinder head on my 1.6 petrol a wee while back - tricky for me (though I had some assistance). I've also been told that oil burners are harder to fo - I don't know why. The tricky bit (for me at least) was setting up the timing at the end of the job. Taking off the head and replacing the gasket is a quite straightforward spanner job. :)

Yeah, I reckon the compression issue is down to the head gasket, I would get my mechanic mate to sort the timing out anyway, not worth doing the job then trashing the engine for the sake of 20 quid!

Only thing I suppose is getting the manifold bolts loose and fiddly stuff like that!
