Hi. My cambelt broke on my 2007 Clio 1.4 Dynamique, mileage 49k. I now realise it should have been changed after 5 years. it only bent 14 valves which i have now replaced.
My question is about the Cambelt. when i removed the cambelt cover it was full of bits of cambelt. the belt was only 12mm wide ( new one 25mm ). is this normal for an old cambelt. all the pulleys have no movement and the waterpump is ok. of course i will replace all the pulleys and waterpump. wondered what caused it to shred into pieces. dont want the new one to do the same..
I have seen aux belts split in between the reinforcement strands when removed it fell into 2 belts this is what may have happened to your cam belt one parts cam off and started the end result
Ron
afterwards realised that as cambelt is missing theres no pressure on tensioner. thats why the arrow isnt align with marker. after removing tensioner theres a deep score in the bolt behind it, looks like tensioner was rubbing against bolt head, could be too much play in it.
have now replaced all valves and fiitted new cambelt kit, new water pump and accessory belt. car is running fine and drives like new...
There was another member who had the same problem of cam belt shredding, my recollection is that it was due to the tensioner axle being bent forcing the cam belt to run tight onto the sides of the cam pulley causing it to shred. Check your new belt is running clear of the edge of the pulley..........
