Kangoo 1.5Dci - Starting Issue * FIXED *

Hello all,

I have a 2006 Kangoo 1.5DCi van which has failed to start for me for the past week.

What I have observed:

1. Immobiliser light flashes correctly without key.
2. Immobiliser light steady red with key inserted at position 2
3. With key at position 2, no glow plug/engine light
4. Cranks, but doesn't fire.
5. OBD unit will not connect to ECU .
6. Glow plugs operate correctly, with correct voltages
7. Fuel flows without air bubbles.

What I have tried:

1. Replace Glow Plug Relay/Control Module with brand new dealer part.
2. Replace main engine relay with brand new dealer part.
3. Replaced the glow plugs with 4 x brand new Beru

None of these has fixed the issue.

Intermittantly, the glow plug light will come on the dashboard (maybe once per day if I'm lucky) When it does start it sounds sweet, just as it should, but when power applied (as in trying to move off), the engine stalls, no glow light, and refuses to restart.

My experience with fixing cars is somewhere below the 'Virgin' level, so 'Monkey See, Monkey Do' replies please, any advice welcomed!

Lastly - Thank You in advance!

Re: Kangoo 1.5Dci - Starting Issue

Can someone confirm whether the immobiliser light is supposed to remain steady-red with the key in position II first (I don't know)?

After someone has answered that, OP, have a read through this:

Re: Kangoo 1.5Dci - Starting Issue

Thanks, I have already read through that - as I have most every other thread regarding 1.5DCi starting issues.

Usually, the Immo light flashes until the key is in position 2, then will extinguish as the engine starts.

However, it remains solid red throughout cranking, and will therefore not fire.

I have tried it with both keys, same result.

One key is a brand new dealer part costing plenty pennies, but the dealers have had all they are having out of me now.

I can't for the life of me figure out why the glow plug light is intermittent, when it does flash up, the van will start and sound sweet. Stopping and trying to restart is futile... it just won't do it.

Also when the light does flash up, I can connect my OBD reader to the socket, and it will connect to the ECU .

The only code I have had is P0670 - Glow Plug Control Module Circuit Open - hence my changing the plugs and the relay with new parts.

Once I clear the code, the engine will start fine. On stopping, and rescanning, P0670 rears its' ugly head again.
