Auxiliary belt snapping twice ???

Hi there to all,

I have a Renault Trafic 2.5 DCI Auto with air con the lot and last week the auxiliary belt started to fray and bits fraying off and was making a banging slapping noise off the belt and the belt was running just half the width just after I was making a tight turn and on the same day my local garage put a new one on for me and that was fine until yesterday again I made a tight left turn out of a car park and bang the belt was seriously mangled up again, The engine is running fine so I crawled home about 1.5 miles and jacked the van up and low and behold the belt is mangled again,
My question is Why is this happening twice in one week and the mileage done in that week was only about 50 miles if lucky,

My Trafic is a 2006/7 with only 20K miles on the clock original as it is a Wheelchair accessible Vehicle (WAV for short)

I cannot believe this has happened as myself and my wife were just talking about selling it or part exchanging it for a smaller vehicle as we do not need a large one now, sods law, me and my big mouth,

Any help will be grateful Thanks Nev

Pulley jammed or running off.
Clutch pulley on the alternator is a favourite
But any of the pulleys or kit that is driven could be sticking.
If running off, belt can move and end up rubbing.
Either can shred a belt in a few miles.

Considering the "tight left turn" possibly power steering pump jamming or moving under load?

Hi Dancingdad

Thanks for your reply about my problem and the belt when I got it off looks like it has been scrubbing on one side and lost about 4 ribs I think there is 7 ??

I can turn by hand the small pulleys about 3 inches round poss adjusting pulleys and the bottom pulley to the rear which might be the air con and that turns freely as well so I will have a feel at the power steering pulley tomorrow if I am feeling ok as I am disabled and even jacking up the van takes it out of me lol,

Many thanks matey much appreciated Nev
