ok thanks,
will do .fuel filter hasnt been changed in a good while.the car was low on fuel but never run dry.i read on forum that you can prime the engine, any links on how to do this ,all answers gladly appreciated.thanks again
Think that would be my starting point ..cheap and will need done anyway ....

How cold was it? Because it could also be freezed water inside the fuel-filter. If the fuel filter is REALLY old we often get something we call "diesel-animals" Sounds strange, but it's bacteria that feeds off diesel/water. Looks like brown yuck.
I've seen this many, many times...

I just also have to ask if you've checked the battery and if the starter is working?

ok,heres wot i done.i checked glow plugs, all was fine(thought so because check emissions light is not on).then found fuel primer(thanks for photo m8) i squeezed it until it got tight, then had someone start the car, same thing happened ,car ran 5secs cut out.so then i pumped bulb while someone started the car ,i kept pumping car ran while i pumped but when i stoped pumping the motor stopped.it was then i realized there was diesel dripping from the bumper side wheel arch.i think there is a crack in the fuel line and its starving engine of fuel.does this happen often or just my luck

At least you've found something.
Something must have snagged on the pipes, perhaps the Policeman you ran over?

Where is the Dripping, you don't say front or back?
My guess Front.
Suggest leaky fuel filter housing (they are plaggy & distort with age), or indeed the Squeezy ball & pipework which does perish or crack.
