Driveshaft pulled out, Scenic 2 **Fixed**

Hi

I'm in the process of changing my front shock absorbers. I had loosened the big nut on the driveshaft and thought that the driveshaft would stay in place as I was knocking with a hammer on the metal piece where the shock absorber is connected ( dont know the english word for it)
Anyway I got the shock and metal piece sepererated and then I saw that the driveshaft had been pulled out from the transmission. Its the left side.
I think that Maybe 0.5 L transmission oil has run out.

Both driveshafts have just been changed 1000 km ago

My question is how to insert / connect the driveshaft again.

Carefully clean the seal and end of driveshaft and ease it back in all the way!
If any oil has come out you will need to check the level in the gearbox on completion.

Hmm

So the only "thing" that holds the driveshaft in place is the big nut on the outer end of the driveshaft ?

Shall I fill up the cavety on the driveshaft with grease ?

Yes, in and out motion of driveshaft from the suspension is accommodated by the inner universal joint so the spline into the gearbox is not subject to lateral forces. Older Renaults used to have a roll pin to tie the driveshaft to gearbox but this is unusual on other makes. No need to grease the spline as it will get plenty of oil from the rotating gears in the box.

Can I ask why you were playing with the big nut ?

Struts on a Scenic 2 are held at bottom by pinch bolts to the hub.

IIRC
split track rod end
split lower ball joint.
Pinch bolts
Tap to release hub from strut
Tie hub out of the way
Remove upper mount nuts
Remove strut

Not sure if the lower ball joint needs splitting ??
