Hi all just bought my girlfriend a 1.2 2004 Renault clio and after idling problems and loss of power and not revving occasionally I was told by a friend to clean the throttle body and inlet manifold. I did this last night and now when I have refitted everything this morning the car starts fine but the the revs on idle shoot right up to 6000rpm and bounce of the limiter I shut the car off right away don't know what's causing this to happen any help would be greatly appreciated cheers Adam

If he took them off then it could be a few problems..damaged ICV ..damaged gaskets..manifold to head and throttle body to manifold so sucking air and one other I can think of is pre cat lambda reading incorrectly that one would just be a coincidence and was just waiting to happen..clio throttle bodies can be a right pain and when they do go wrong there is nothing else but change them for a new one..:frown2:

Was thinking he could have left them on, flooded it with cleaner, and the cleaner is mixed with petrol, and because its in the oil residue, its a lot to get out of the system, but in 3 or 4 minutes, it will burn off, and idle again.

Had another think about it Stu..quite often they will lose the idle settings when taken off and if thats the case it would need to be reset which would be turn on Ign DON'T start the engine leave for 10 seconds, turn ignition off, repeat 3 times.

Only then, start the engine and take for a drive..Worth a punt I guess..:smile2:

I cleaned them off the car dried them out and left them over night to dry abit more invades missed any bits Ive unplugged the map sensor and the revs went down and was running boggy and plugged back in and the revs flew back up wonder if a new one will sort it thanks in advance

Did you move the plate inside the throttle body (OPEN the plate) by hand.
To get better access ..
If yes, (Do you have the radio code)..
Disconnect the battery,,,

After a few minutes, reconnect the battery, switch the ignition on, until you hear everything under the bonnet stop making any noises ..
Now switch the ignition off, leave the ignition off, for 3/5 minutes.
Start the car, do not touch your pedals, allow to warm up, ,,, If it still goes crazy, double check all seals on the inlet manifold, and throttle body..

Yeah I moved the plate inside the throttle body while it was off the car though will this still matter and no radio code but who cares just want it running right to be honest lol , I'll go out and give it a go now should I take both live and neutral off the battery ?

Negative will do, you can, if you use tinternet, find your code ,,.
No one will help on here for that,,
For better reasons than people think.. I walk past your car , have your radio away,.and someone on here gives me the code.. we are then as guilty as person pinching it...
(That really is the main reason, not because we are being funny beggars)

Disconnect the throttle body,,, switch the ignition back on, then reconnect the plug. Leave the ignition on, until it stops.
It seems as though your throttle plate has jammed, in the open position.
If it does not stop humming after a few minutes, give it a tap, see if the potentiometer will release, and allow the plate to go back. I mean a tap, dont hit it hard..:grin2:

if this doesn't work new throttle body it is I'm guessing aha

I think we have got to the route of the problem..self infliction..never lift a throttle plate on a flyby throttle body when cleaning it..it can be cleaned from the front of the plate and from the rear of it..plenty of throttle body cleaners to be had to do the job in aerosol form with the aid of a small brush its easy to shift deposits..

Humming would normally suggest something sticking.

Can you see the butterfly (throttle plate) in the throttle body ?
What position is it in, open or closed ?
Does it seem stuck or free to move ?

Get someone to turn on ignition while you watch the plate.
Is it trying to move ?

Hi the plate is closed when ignition off turn the ignition on the plate moves a little bit then goes back shut when the car was started the plate stayed shut is this normal or should it be open ? Have I damaged the ICv when I've cleaned the throttle body ? Thanks Adam

If inlet manifold is not correctly fitted,,,
Ecu measuring air flow, as in pedal down, pumps fuel in through injectors
Strip it back down, recheck all your work, ....
Usually if a throttle body gasket, leaking, 2,400 rpm,, not sure on inlet manifold,,
but if a seal is missing, could be any rpm,
Especially if Oring seals are used for inlet manifold..
If it is O rings, check under the car or on the undertray if fitted, might find one out

What kind of throttle body is it? If its mechanical its either the butterfly is jammed or the seals, but if it is an electrical one\ computer motor driven one, then you probably did the mistake when u pushed the butterfly with your fingers, the sprocket's in side the butterfly motor are very sensitive , i had the same problem on my 2012 megane ,but i managed to sort it out with wurth throttle body cleaner, just sprayed it on a running engine, still runs good almost a year later.
