oil in coolant tank

Hi

Ive got oil in my coolant tank ....I had a mechanic out on friday over a starting issue and asked him about an oil leak I have .....I think he said it was coming from the Thermostat Housing Manifold ( That was from searching on line after he pointed to the leak and called the part something I forgot) and that it was feeding into the coolant .......The dip stick is just covered in oil ......Is this likely the case ...can I get the Thermostat gasket replaced and will this solve the problem.

NO, IMHO Change the whole thing. They are plaggy & warp. The gaskets from ECP are about 16. The whole thing is less than 40 Inc the seal. Same amount of work. Still need new coolant. Don't want to do it twice, do you?

Re: oil in coolant tank

Praise the mechanic.
Many see oil in coolant and immediately diagnose head gasket, not thinking that some cars have oil and water in close proximity in other places.

Plus 1 to swap the whole thermostat housing.
And be careful on torques, overtightening can distort the plastic and create the problem.
Nottnoc and ours2012 like this.

Re: oil in coolant tank

Update:

Took it to see another mechanic this morning and explained the other believed oil was leaking into the coolant because the thermost housing was faulty....he said that wasnt likely as theres no oil running through the housing on a thermostat.....yet Ive seen posts that says it does........Who do I believe. (he didnt look at it)

I checked the oil cap and theres no creamy residue , same with the dip stick.....yet hes saying its likely to be the rocker
