Clio 1.5dci starting and idle issue

Hello

I have recently purchased a mk2 Clio 1.5 dci. All was fine until the second day I had it, refused to start, turned over nice and quick but would not kick I to life. So googling led me to do the following:
- egr clean
-fuel filter change
-relays swapped
- tdc sensor cleaned

Still no start, plugged my diagnostic in, received the following under stored faults:
-P0089 fuel pressure regulator 1 performance.
-P0685 ECM/PCM power relay control circuit/open.
-P0089 fuel pressure regulator 1 performance.

Cleared faults and they have not come back, but still no start. Put some jump leads on and it started, let it run for a bit, shut it off. Swapped battery for a higher CCA one, next morning, no start again. Jump leads back out and away it goes. But I do notice when it's idling, it sits at about 750 rpm and almost sounds like its surging but the revs don't move, does this for about 2 mins then smoothly climbs to about 900 rpm and idles beautifully, for about 30 secs then drops back down and repeats the process. Revs up fine, no smoke and no hesitation. My next job is going to be the injector leak test and see how that turns out, but just looking for other ideas?

I'm thinking electric, possibly earth issues.

When you jump start it, red to positive on battery, black to earth on engine by any chance ?
Currently in Dancingdad's garage:
Qashqai 1.6 spark driven, Kia Sedona 2.9 TDI, Scenic II 15DCi 2004 (SORN) not quite RIP.

No, I'm one of those that just connects the batteries :/

Where are you putting the red lead, on the battery, after fuses/before fuse....
Once running, is everything working, electric wise?

I remember going to see Dr. Hook in the 70s.

Red lead positive to positive, black lead negative to negative. I think the starting May be something draining the battery while it's stood, aftermarket radio somehow? While driving it's perfect, accelerates nice and cruises smooth, only at idle it's a bit weird. Only problem while driving is if I dig the foot in while revs are low and I'm in a high gear, the clutch seems to slip a little and I get the glow plug light, and 2 others come on, until the clutch stops slipping (let off accelerator slightly) then they go straight back out.
