1.5DCi Scenic EGR casing reinstallation

I have swapped the turbo on my 1.5DCi Scenic II.

To get the old turbo out I had to remove the EGR housing. To do this I had to detatch the clip fastening the housing to the slight flexible tube connecting the EGR to the exhaust manifold.

Now I'm putting it back together I can't get the clip holding the EGR housing and the flexible pipe together to fasten!!

I've spent £2.03 on a new clip (pictured) in case the old one was damaged. I've tried needle nosed pliers from above and below. I've tried right angled pliers etc. etc. But I can't get the clip to close. Almost but not quite!

Is there a special tool or am I just inept?

Any help greatly appreciated.

I don't know but a set of these ?

Can't tell but is the clip plastic?
If so, dipping it in (near) boiling water may soften enough to stretch?

Or use a jubilee clip

Re: 1.5DCi Scenic EGR casing reinstallation

I'm afraid I've already tried pincers.

The clamp is metal and acts like an old fashioned exhause clamp, so a jubilee clip won't do it. The pipe and the bottom of the EGR housing meet, the clip is shaped to squeeze the pipe and EGR casing together as it closes. Like an old fashioned exhaust clamp squeezes exhaust to manifold. Where an exhaust clamp has a couple of bolts to close it this clip does not, it closes by one end clipping over the other.

So I've decided to drill the two ends of the clamp and insert an M4 bolt and use the nut/bolt to squeeze the two ends together, hopefully engaging the clip!

Fair enough.

Bigger pincers ?

Wonder if specific hose clip pliers would do it?
