Renault Kangoo 1.9 diesel unable to bleed air from fuel lines

Hi everyone, I am new to the forum although I have been checking all the posts relevant to my problem. I have a Renault Kangoo 1.9 diesel van (2001 model) and recently I have changed the fuel filter and there is now an awful lot of air in the fuel system which can be seen through the clear fuel pipes. I can see air bubbles in both the feed pipe from the tank to the filter, the delivery line to the pump from the filter and from the pump to the injectors. There is no priming bulb on my Kangoo. Can anyone help me so I can start my van.

Thank you for the reply. Hopefully someone will enlighten how I can bleed the fuel system without having a priming bulb. I see the fuel filter has a bleed screw on the top and bottom. Just don't have a clue how to prime the system

Re: Renault Kangoo 1.9 diesel unable to bleed air from fuel lines

If no priming bulb, then should be an electric pump which primes system.
Can be force primed with Clip but usually just cycling ignition on and off will fill filter.
With top bleed nipple open, get someone to turn on ignition but not to start.... should see fuel coming out, tighten when you do.
May need easy start to kick it into life.
Once motor is running, any remaining air should self bleed

If you are still seeing air after motor is running, possible air leak at pipe joints into filter or if a replaceable cartridge type, gasket.

Red face Re: Renault Kangoo 1.9 diesel unable to bleed air from fuel lines

Many thanks for the reply Dancingdad I will give that a go. Going away on business for a week from today, so will have to hire a car unfortunately and leave the work on the Kangoo till next week. Will touch base on how I get on next week.
