Megane II cold start problem

Hello!

I have a Renault Megane II 2005 1,6 16v. My problem appeared a couple of weeks ago when the car didnīt start on the first try as i used to. when I press the startbutton now it takes up 3-4 tries before it starts. The start engine works, it fires, but wonīt turn over. The start problem is only when the engine is cold. If I were to drive the car for a while, stop and turn it of/on again it would start on the first try after pressing the start button. The cold start problem also appears when Iīm driving. when the engine is cold, the idle is moving up and down, just a little bit, and when I throttle, the engine "jumps" a little bit. The problem disapears as soon as the engine gets warm and then it works perfectly.

Do you have any clue what the problem might be?

best regards,

Petter

Re: Megane II cold start problem

Hi Jimmy - welcome to the forum.

As you mention your engine has heater plugs I take the engine is a diesel. The post by Petta refers to a petrol engine.

But if you are having starting difficulties from cold but all is OK when the engine is warm it may be worth checking the engine coolant temp sensor/s. If faulty the ECU will think the engine is always warm and therefore not adjust fuel and injection timing to suit cold starting.
No gaurantee that is you problem but it may be worth checking if only to rule it out as a possibility.
