Megane vibrating, low revs when idling

Hi - I'm new to the forums! I also don't know a lot about cars but I'll try to explain my problem..

I have a Megane (2001?) 1.6v, 69k miles. Since I got the car, the revs alternate slightly when idling (something from about 700-750rpm from the display. A few coils went and had some spark plug problems a while back and then everything was fine. Anyway, last sunday I was driving around little country roads in the p---ing rain and i think that the car engine had got a bit dirty. I had some problems a while back starting the car, and the AA came out and sprayed some WD-40 onto what was described to me as a little silver square - apparently this hjad got dirty and was preventing my plugs from firing at the correct time?

Anyway, now when the car is idling (it's driving OK) the revs are going from about 700rpm down to as low as 450/500rpm. The car is noticably vibrating which can be seen mostly by looking at the gear lever wobbling. Inside the bonnet, the engine is shaking back and forward quite a bit (although cannot move it by hand when car off). I have a strong feeling that the dirty from the weekend has something to do with this, and I doubt very much it's my plugs, coils or cambelt (as I had a whole new set of them all in Jan this year). I can't for the life of me find this little 'silver square' either and it's driving me crazxy! When idling the engine just about astops going the revs are so slow!!

Any ideas??

Thanks,
baz:crazy:

Terrible

I took it to the garage today, and after looking over it for a good hour or so, the guys over there said althought there is blatantly something wrong with it, they cannot find what it is! Everything is working as it should basically.. Im SURE it has something to do with dirt getting onto this little 'silver square' i mentioned above.. anybody have any idea what this is and where I can find it??

Thanks,
barry

The silver square mentioned could be a number of things:crazy:

It could be part of the throttle body, etc. Strange though that a garage is prepared to say there is something wrong but they don't know what its is - maybe it's time to seek another opinion.

If you have any idea of where the silver thing maybe - is there any chance of posting up a picture of it. Maybe some member will recognise it:)

As I said, the guy from the AA came out when it wouldnt start one time, said he used to have a Megane the same as mine. he said that dirt was a problem then showed me what he had cleaned. If you are looking at the engine, it is sort of really low down in the bottomr right side of the engine... it is actually on the eingine, basically if i put my head right into the gap to the bottom right of the engine, i still can't see it.. sorry for the description, i honestly don't know much.. it is on the engine is all i know, and the AA guy told me that it tells the engine to take petrol into the engine or something, and that because it was dirty it was taking petrol in but not firing the plugs at the right time?? I'm almost at the point where I hope it doesnt start and get the same guy out again - the garage i took the car to is usually great and have fixed it numerous times before when coils have been changed, etc..

Yes! It looked a lot like that! All I can remember is a tiny square.. I'm sure it was asliver but it may easily have been black.. Where can I find that in a Megane?? If that was covered with dirt, could it prevent the engine from starting/ticking over properly? It has started each time I've tried, only it isn't instant and coughs for a bit.

Nope

Gave the TCD sensor the clean of its lifetime this morning and it hasn't done anything to solve my problem! Any more ideas?

Very frustrating as usually the garage would fix it but according to them "it has a problem but theres nothing actually wrong with it" - hmm..

Is there anything i can do in the engine that will give me higher revs when idling?
