Hi all I'm new to the forums so nice to meet you all.
I have a 2005 Renault Megane 1.5 dCi 80 Dynamique and it has recently started to make a strange knocking sound when decelerating.
Basically if I accelerate the noise goes away and the engine is smooth but as soon as I take my foot off the gas or sometimes if I push the clutch down the car makes a knocking sound.
No knocking can be felt within the car or cabin or on the pedals and the noise can only be heard. The engine still operates smoothly and as soon as I accelerate again or continue decelerating the noise stops.
If I am at a stand still and push down the clutch pedal the noise is not there and it only happens when I am moving and off the accelerator or sometimes when i push the clutch pedal down to change gear.
It does sound like it is coming from the back of the car but occasionally it can sound further forward in the cabin.
I am going to take the car in on Thurs 25/06/09 for it to be looked at by the garage where i bought it from but I am posting to get a few ideas of what could be wrong.
Having read some posts I have seen this could be down to the car needing a revised engine mounting + air box bung + ecu update to resolve from Renault.
I have also read that this could be down to rear suspension but I can't see how this is linked to the engine. Although it in saying this it does sometimes sound like the noise is coming from deep in the back of the car.
Also I was wondering if anyone knew good places to get my cam belt replaced. I am coming up to 65000 miles and I think it has to be done soon. I have done quotes from garages close to me in Birmingham at £400 including parts + labour. This seems a bit steep so if anyone knows a good place to get this done at a lower cost I would be very greatful.
I am hoping to keep the thread updated as there isn't much on the web for this fault that I can find.
Thanks for your help in advance.
