Hi In have a Megane cabriolet auto 1.6 2002 and it only has 37000 on the clock but as far as I can see it has not had a cambelt change which I think I need to get done sooner rather than later.

I dont even know the correct part number to order and maybe get a local garage to fit Im guessing will be cheaper?

My local garage independant garage quoted around £270 to supply and fit this , is that a fair price, Im wondering if it will be better to source the kit and then just get him to fit, Id appreciate any help and advice.
Thanks
Jane :d

If you try either of the links below you should be able to find the price of a timing belt kit. If the water pump is timing belt driven it is highly recommended to fit a new one at the same time plus a new auxiliary belt.
Also some garages may not offer any warranty if you supply your own belt, etc. Should the belt fail at a later date you may have no comeback.
The price quoted sounds OK but find out exactly what components they will be replacing and what warranty is provided - if any:)

Exactly what noel said tbh. I had mine done the other year and it cost me £150, I was well happy with that as I was expecting £200-300 to be honest. Your best bet would be to ring around a few unless that garage quoting you is a well known one that is good then I personally would go with it.

But also like Noel said, see what exactly they change. I had a Cambelt kit and Auxillary belts, covers all cases. To change the Aux belts you need to remove the cambelt anyway so pointless doing one without the others tbh.

Can't go wrong ringing other independent garages though.

On a 2002 I'm guessing that the engine is a 16 valve so that will make it more expensive than an 8 valve. The 16 valve kits are around £80 trade,£100+ retail, the water pump and auxillary belt are optional but recommended.

I would think an independant would be around £300 all in for the whole job (water pump and aux belt included).
