starting problem

Hi all, experiencing starting problems with my w reg laguna 1.6 16v alize. When cold ie snow or ice etc the car takes a long time to start. the battery is only 3 months old and fully charged, the alternator is producing the correct current so not either of those. when starting the starter is turning over at normal speed, but can take anything upto 10-20 seconds to catch. after this the rev counter sometimes goes really low necessitating a rev of the engine to stop the car stalling(this is only occasional though) and after a quick rev the engine speed idles at the normal speed???
this problem has only been apparent since the cold and damp weather set in. the water pump and timing belt were both replaced within the last 6 months. i don't want to take the car to the garage blind or indeed something i could do myself. i believe the car uses coils rather than ht lead as part of a low voltage ignition system.

thanks

Paul

, I tried the silicon spray yestarday still slow Start. Tried this morning and starter bites, but car stalls straight away with revs falling to 0. I've Tried the gas at this point but can't stopit stalling . Is it worth trying the cold start spray that halfords do?

Could be the engine temperature sensor if the ECU
is not being told it's cold it wont set the mixture
correctly, but I don't know were it is on your engine
and there may be 2.

Hi all bit the bullet and called the aa, the checked all mechanical parts and are all ok, he says that the problem is the immobiliser. Although the dashboard light gies off it kicks in when starting which stalls the engine. Looks like it needs replaced. What's the cheapest option here? Don't particularly want to give the Renault dealer my cash

You have may have had a water leak(or condensation) into the imobiliser.
Its the black box clipped onto the side of the Fuse box under the dash, its on the right between the grey fuse box and the side of the dashboard.

Take it out and open it up and get it cleaned out with pcb cleaning fluid. refit and also check the panel with the RF/IR reciever just behind the rearview miror, clean that as well.
There is probably a residue of something causing possible short cuircuit or leakage of voltage between components on the boards.

it will probably fix the intermittant problem. it worked for me with intermittant door lock issues.
