Ive browsed through about as much as i could and couldn't get a answer so would like your help please
I am the not so proud owner of a 52 plate clio 1.6 with multiple problems, not least a oil leak in the engine (the list of actual problems is very long)
The area of the leak is shown below in the pictures but im not sure what this is and would like some help identifying what is leaking and possible solutions please.
Its under what i think is the air filter where the hose under that connects to the main block.
Sadly the pictures aren't very clear but it may well be the engine breather pipe is leaking or pushing out excess gases. Have a close look inside the air filter and is associated plumbing for signs of oil.
Is your leak, the weeping from the camshaft seal .... if so from the pictures it looks old and well covered in grime, if so and little if any fresh oil is leaking I'd ignore it and clean the area down and keep an eye on it ... if it returns check the breather system to make sure the engine is not being over pressurised because its blocked ... if it is then I'd clear it out and do as noel suggests and change the plug.
Id be leaving that well alone its the best oil leak ive seen on a k4m. It looks like its coming from the oil vapour rebreathing cover on the cam cover. Wash it off and dip the oil. Dont worry about it!
bad news, theres a bigger leak further down the engine same side as the cam shaft sealing plugs its the big black thing below it with loads of tubes coming out of it, anyone know what this is and where it could leak from/why
Ok so its black on my car but i found this picture online of where the leaking seems to come from, ignore the circle its just someone else's picture. Can anyone tell me what part of the engine this is and what is the usual cause of a leak in this area?
Your clio has a black coolant housing bolted on the side of the head, ive seen these have major leaks and it definatly sounds like yours is leaking engine oil through it as theres an oil circuit inside that runs through the unit, the seal is leaking and unfortunatly you need a new one. this will solve your problem and their not to expensive.
i finally got to the bottom of this leak after it started leaking a litre a week, turns out that the whole of that unit pictured was very loose and not bolted on properly
simple problem but me dragging my feet cost me 60 quid in oil (cheap stuff aswell)
finall got my gloves on and fixed it last weekend, just 8 or more things to fix before the MOT in april
