I think what they are saying is that there is a company called BBA Reman who will recondition your own unit for a couple of hundred.
It may need to be put back onto Reanult diagnostics to clear any left over faults and you will need to remove your own unit and be without it for a couple of days while they turn it round.
Removing the unit isn't a major job if you're handy with spanners... maybe an hour to remove and same to re-fit. Nothing fiddly.

Renault dealers do have a tendency to quote for replacing everything on the system...just in case.
And will replace the electronic unit for sticking cables as they do not supply cables alone on the grand scenic...if yours is only cables, there are options to get cables custom built.
