I have in the past used petrol from Morrisons but although the cost was cheaper and I had more fuel for the money I actually covered less distance than normal. Also last year whilst holidaying in france and driving the folly (Honda Accord) after filling up at a supermarket the engine managemment light came on after using half of the tank. The light stayed on and the performance suffered until after I filled up again (at an Esso station) and used half of that tank full.So I believe that petrol from supermarkets is not of the same quality as from branded petrol stations. One thing though just because you pull into an Esso station don't assume you are getting Esso refined petrol but trust that it is not the same as petrol as is supplied to supermarket forecourts. I was told this fact by a tanker driver a few years ago.
