Clunky gears when cold?

Good morning,

When the engine is cold (after the initial pull away and change into second gear) the gears are very clunky and stiff. When I do change gear, there is often a jolt/jerk and it is not until the engine is warm that the gears become ‘normal’ and smooth to change. There is also a high degree of hesitancy when cold, and if I do accelerate hard, then release the pedal, it feels as though the engine stops briefly, then carries on going as normal...possibly something to do with the automatic choke sticking on perhaps?

Anyway, my main query is about the gears…Is it normal to experience this during cold, or is there a problem?
