Welding metal on motors

Some modern vehicles have some panels either galvanised or cadmium plated - it mostly used on panels which are likely to rust or suffer from stone chips. To find out you will need to strip the paint off right down to the metal. If its galvanised it will be a distinctive grey colour and if cadmium plated it will be a slight bronze colour. Both coatings can make it difficult to weld and will give off toxic fumes when heated to high temperatures. During manaufacture cars are welded by robots using very specialised equipment. But if in doubt I am sure your local body basheres could tell you if you can hear them speaking through their gasmask. MOst repairers now use MIG or Spot welders - gas welding is just to messy and distorts the panels badly.
