Ok, when I'm fit enough I will have to pop the drums off to make sure that they have installed the springs. The resistance I am talking about is only a small resistance from a spring that all handbrakes have. At the moment when I lift the handbrake to the biting point I am just simply lifting the weight of the lever, very aware that there is no spring tension there.
