I'm with Phil.
Never used a torque on these sort of things in my life though wouldn't argue against it being the correct way.
Spanners are actually sized to give the right sort of leverage to create the right level of torque with a decent push/pull on the end.
Other items such as cylinder heads that rely on balanced load across all bolts..different ballgame.
As are things like brake bleed nipples where a pinch is all that's needed and using a torque wrench will stop overtightening (but I still use the Thats About Right method)
