Re: Clio III fuel cap and flap - how to lock

My Clio 2005 1.5Dci I had locked as soon as the doors locked.
Goolia if the cap does lock and you can't get it to unlock the whole flap slides off to left with a bit of force which then exposes the a little finger hole that allows you to manually push the pin back.

Let us know how you get on.

Re: Clio III fuel cap and flap - how to lock

That's good to know. Thanks very much for all the info and advice.

Unfortunately it seems like it's broken, but at least I know how it works now and how much I should expect to pay to fix it.

Thanks again!

Re: Clio III fuel cap and flap - how to lock

Thanks for the tips...I had the same problem tonight - my "other half" phoned 'cos she couldn't get the flap open....
...after a few laughs, I got home and was embarrassed not to be able to open it either!

After 30 mins of locking / unlocking and pulling the flap 'til it almost snapped; I hit the interior locking button (by hazard button).....the flap flipped open.

Now full of fuel, it doesn't want to lock....have waited 20 mins but still no locking. Can hear lock 'clunking' when remote locking; but pin isn't moving.

WD'd it too.

How do you get to the solenoid to replace? unscrew cap surround from outside?

Re: Clio III fuel cap and flap - how to lock

As far as I know you have to remove either:

a) the boot interior trim on to gain access or
b) remove the rear wheel arch liner

I'm not sure either way i'm afraid but if it's the interior trim root be careful of the rear airbags etc

Re: Clio III fuel cap and flap - how to lock

Do you think it would be possible to get a mark II Clio petrol cap and key from a breaker and replace the Clio III's petrol cap with that?

Just thinking that if the solenoid is something that breaks frequently, it might be easier to leave the flap unlocked and find a way to secure the cap instead. I am also trying to find a way to dodge paying the Renault garage 160 ;-)
