That will more than likely strip the wax from the paintwork as well.
It is always best to reapply wax after any cleaning of the paintwork to protect it from the elements.

I find that WD40 works well on tar.

It must be good stuff when bought at Lidl. I use Jet A-1. Fantastic stuff for shifting tar. There is nothing better, not even from Lidl.
