Re: Clio S Mk 2 Whining

I can't think of anything that would be SO specific to that particular speed?
As you describe the sound as so low, could it not be a case that the noise is there constantly, but at the particular speed you're describing, it's audiable because the engine noise is a little quieter? If you roll down a hill from say 40mph in neutral, allowing gravity to slow you down, does the noise still go at around 37mph? I'm just trying to give ideas to narrow things down!

These types of things happen to me all the time, it's never a straight forward problem: Fault + Repair = Fix. I don't mind spending money fixing any problem on my motor, but when it's only a 50/50 chance the problem will get solved, it doesn't inspire confidence!

Try swapping your tyres around and see if the noise moves

+1 for tyres I had a noise on another car that was very speed specific and was a front tyre, wheel bearings are another possibility but have a good look at the tyres for any ware patterns have a feel for any raised parts of the tread.
Look for any sighne a wheel weight as gone AWOL.

Who would design a vehicle that falls over when you stop?

If you find a fix for your problem please let us know it will help others.

Re: Clio S Mk 2 Whining

i dont know if you fixed it now but i had a similar problem, few weeks later gearbox died on me. cost me an arm and both legs to get it replaced and headache still not over.

p.s. if you took it to a mechanic who said gearbox is going I suggest you buy a gearbox now while the car is still working and then put it in afterwards. You dont want to be left with no car, no gearbox and no way to get a gearbox apart from expensive couriers,
