I would presume that the triangular section is where the retaining bolts are hidden.
However, I also believe the existing mirror is repairable (I have performed such repairs in the past).
If the electrical functions still work, and you don't mind not being able to fold the casing in, then a clean up of both inside faces, followed with a copious amount of Tiger Seal, and masking or duct tape to hold it for a couple of days (whilst it sets) will do the job.
Tiger Seal is used to bond bodykits & spoilers, so is strong enough for this task - it grips hard, yet also retains some flexibility (i.e. it doesn't go brittle).
It is available in black, white or clear, and is used via a mastic gun.
Search online (Halfords won't stock it), its around £9 a tube.
This job should never be complete - the day I think I've done it all, is the day I resign.
