Megane 1 Pre face lift boot - will a facelift version fit?

Hi There,
Wondering if you can help. We have 16v Megane Hatchback 99 preface lift model and we need to get a new boot / Tailgate.

The Scrap yard has one in same car but it's the face lift version and the right colour as well - Would it just fit straight on - It all looks pretty similar but loathed to start taking it off at the scrap yard without checking as it at the top of a pile of other cars

Any help would be appreciated

Re: Megane 1 Pre face lift boot - will a facelift version fit?

Hi there and welcome.

I would say it should fit. The main bodyshell should have the same mounting points for the hinges, and the latch should be in the same place.

'Facelift' versions of the same models may look different (and that's the point), and use different electrical connections (if applicable), but essentially, the main bodyshell remains untouched, as changes there, are the most expensive to engineer-in.

Rover Group used this ploy well, for many years, look at the 200/25/ZR & 400/45/ZS as examples - all body panels are interchangeable, with the minimum of re-work.

This job should never be complete - the day I think I've done it all, is the day I resign.

Re: Megane 1 Pre face lift boot - will a facelift version fit?

I've got a pre-facelift Megane 1 tailgate sitting in my garage - metallic blue colour, no rust or paint damage, complete with heated screen, wiring and all lights. 25 collected if you're anywhere near Hertfordshire. (It will fit in the back of a Megane 1 hatch - I know that because that's how I got it home. Sold the car before I got round to fitting the tailgate)
