Espace 4 front wing replacement, bumper removal etc?

Hi all,, if replacing front wings on a mk4 espace, I assume the bumper has to come off first? Anyone know how to do these 2 jobs? (please no replies of the type, 'if its the same as my mk3, 1992, txe, laguna or whatever, thanks; not ungrateful, but looking for specifics this time please), as I have 'found' some fresh scratches, and seconnd hand parts are cheaper than paint! Many thanks everyone.

Re: Espace 4 front wing replacement, bumper removal etc?

I was half-tempted not to reply (as I've never done this job on a car like yours), but, speaking as someone who has regularly had to remove & refit body panels on all types of car, I would say that you have a distinct advantage in assessing how panels are affixed, by investigating the replacements beforehand.

FWIW, I would believe the bumper would need removal, and I would suggest getting the front end off the ground & supported by axle stands, as this will allow you to remove the wheels, to gain access to remove the wheelarch liners, which, in turn will allow the bumper & wings to be unbolted.

Maybe someone will reply who has done this specific task on your particular model, but if not, hopefully my method will point you in the correct direction.

This job should never be complete - the day I think I've done it all, is the day I resign.

Re: Espace 4 front wing replacement, bumper removal etc?

Removal of the Mark IV front wing is reasonably straightforward, the wing itself is attached by 11 bolts, some of which are plain, others are fitted with adjusters to allow the panel gaps to be set.

In order to access all 11 bolts you need to remove:

the side section of the scuttle grille,
the engine side cover,
the A-pillar trim,
the upper wing trim,
the mudguard,
the front section of the sill panel protector,
the side repeater,
the front bumper,
the headlight unit.

Hope that helps.

Re: Espace 4 front wing replacement, bumper removal etc?

Specifically how is the front bumper removed?

Mine has been dinged by some 2hat in a car park. Not me this time I came back to see the bumper pushed in at the near side.
