Carbon Filter Dangling .....

My 99 megane has what I think is a carbon fuel filter thingy at the front left hand side..with a few pipes going in and out of it..Sorry if I sound vague but Haynes makes no mention of this 'black box'...but the question is, it is just dangling loose by it's pipes, and sort of hangs down 2" below the bottom of the car, swinging away and banging as I drive along.

is there supposed to be a bit of plastic guard underneath it..(sorry are they called pebble guards or something) for it to sit on...or is it supposed to be secured by something because I can't find any way at all of tying it up and stopping it swinging around.

I've got a bit irritated by it to be honest because I can't fix it, I can't find any info about it and when I go to scrap yards they are usually missing..

so ANY help would be gratefully received..

Re: Carbon Filter Dangling .....

It's called a carbon fuel recycling canister. Most are held in place with metal brackets which have a habit of rusting through - hence it falls down.

If you can get the car jacked uop it may be possible to either replace the brackets or fix it into place using a few good heavy duty nylon cable ties.
