Yup, I would agree with this. Pug 205 1.8d had insulation, 1996 Passat Petrol, 2007 Ka Petrol, 2000 Clio Petrol all without. It's to reduce noise transmission over your windscreen. This, I believe is where most of the noise will come from whilst moving. Maybe it also helps a diesel get to temp quicker, helps cold starting, prevent diesel freeze in winter?
