Help... Faulty bonnet catch

Hi guys,

I have an issue with my renault clio MK2 1.2 engine.

I pull the lever to open the bonnet and the bonnet pops as normal, I then open the bonnet in the normal manner and everything is ok, opens as it should do....

I then try and shut the bonnet but it doesn't shut correctly. It does not shut tightly, but just into the position as it would if you was to pull the lever like previously.

I can push it down so it goes tight, but it does not catch/lock??

What should i do, how much would this be to repair?

Many thanks.

Re: Help... Faulty bonnet catch

When you pull the lever in the car, does it return to it's stop when you let go.
If not, it could be a sticking cable or mechanism at the bonnet catch end.
Have you tried lubricating the mechanism.
Be careful with this problem. The bonnets like to come open at speed on Clios.
If you are not sure, take it to a garage....slowly.
Cost depends on the fault.

Re: Help... Faulty bonnet catch

its worth removing the centre part of the cable if possible and check its ok as it maybe starting to break up /rusting if ok grease and replace
apart from that if may need adjustment
the catch should be greased every so often and at the same time do the door hinges

Re: Help... Faulty bonnet catch

As lancsdave, could be that the plastic 'pull' under the bonnet isn't retracting as it should - clean it of grease/muck and re-lube with white grease, see if that sorts it.

That, or there's a problem with the striker assembly in the slam panel, or the cable for the cabin release lever.

Lots of cars have been recalled for this as it's a known dangerous fault, it's worth contacting Renault to see if yours has been recalled; if not they may replace the mechanism free of charge.
