It's definitely worth checking the drain outlets.
It's very common for road crud to gather up behind the wheel arch liners at the back of the front wheels thus inhibiting drainage. Anyone I know who has ever removed the plastic bit is surprised at how much gunge and road dirt that has acumulated.

There's an old saying in the world of drainage - if theres a problem always start at the lower point as that's where the blockage tends to accumulate

Another update on this, the footwells are much drier despite some torrential rain however i have noticed some damp on the headliner by the sun visors and sunroof. I'm going to get the sunroof sealed whilst i'm at it but clearing those pipes has made a massive difference! Thanks for the advice!
