windscreen problem

Hi there hope someone out there can offer advice! Bought a new Renault Megane Tourer in October so only a few months old. Discovered this morning an L shaped crack running down from the top of the windscreen about 12cm by 16cm, You can't feel the crack from the inside or the outside, so it must be inside the laminate. Took it to the garage and they have referred us to customer services which are unfortunately closed for week end, but did say that windscreen not covered by warranty, so a bit miffed to say the least! Does anyone know of any faults that could relate to this, or anyone had a similar problem?

Re: windscreen problem

Hi there and welcome.

I used to work within Ford's customer services, and the only guideling we followed was that if the dealer could spot absolutely no chipping around the crack, then we would accept it as a manufacturing defect if reported within the first 12 months from new.

That was a few years back (when roads were in better condition), so I don't know if Renault follows such a principle.

This job should never be complete - the day I think I've done it all, is the day I resign.

Re: windscreen problem

Only a general alternative thought that might be worth looking into if you get no joy with customer services - Could you hand the whole car back for a replacement? Often you read articles where Trading Standards say that goods purchased must be of merchantible quality and if they don't perform to their intended lifespan then a whole replacement should be offered, even in cases where the guarantee doesn't cover a described fault.
