Rubbing noise when driving 2005 Clio
A colleague recently had her 2005 Clio shunted in a hit & run collision last week.
At first it appeared no damage was caused visibly, but a few minutes after driving off, a noise was noted coming from the rear of the car, a helicopter type rubbing sound can be heard when the car goes above 20 mph, initial investigation found that the inside of both rear wheel arches were rubbing against inside of the rear wheels, so we drilled a few holes into the plastic/fiberglass & used cable ties to pull it away from the wheels by fixing it to rigid points under the car.
Whilst this has stopped the wheel arch rubbing the tyres, the sound still remains, the cars tracking was looked at & any problems rectified.
The annoying sound is like listening to a helicopter in the distance, a sort of dull whoop whoop sound almost as if something is rubbing or wheel is not totally round!
When looking in spare tyre bay, the bodywork has been crumpled, does this give any clues?
I am thinking wheel bearings &/or driveshaft, any thoughts?
