Scenic Mk 1 52 plate - Locking Fuel cap motor

The motor on my scenic mk 1 fuel cap is on its way out and a making noise when I lock / unlock the car. I can't afford to have it replaced at the moment, so want to disconnect the motor to stop the irritating noise. Can this be done? The garage is saying it can't be done but I wondered if they were just saying this so they could get the work!!

Re: Scenic Mk 1 52 plate - Locking Fuel cap motor

There is a manual release/lock for the flap.

See this for access.
Scenic MK1 Petrol Door locked

You'll see a couple of wires running behind the same area. A green and a white possibly.
They lead to a plug in the motor area but you can only just touch it with your finger tips.
Can't be 100% that they are the motor control wires and not just a sensing switch but if it was mine I would cut one and see if the motor stops.
It can be rejoined later.
Tape up both ends of wire just incase it touches anything.

Make sure the manual release works ok before chopping the wire.

Re: Scenic Mk 1 52 plate - Locking Fuel cap motor

On some models disconnecting the petrol flap solenoid may prevent the car from locking as it is part of the central locking ssystem - disconnect the wiring and see what happens.

The solenoids can become sticky after a while so it may be worth giving it a good drenching of WD40 or the like - nothing to lose.
