Door Hinges- Clio

Hello All,

I am a novice at this so hopefully someone will be able to give me some sound advice.

I rather cleverly lost grip of my friends passenger door on her Clio Expression 16V - into a much larger red bus.

The door is somewhat crunched although the A-frame is unhurt. The door currently is closed and locked.

I bought a spare door and when the mechanic went to fit it, he said that the hinges on the old door and car did not fit the new as it was a different type of pin and the orginial door hinge was part welded onto the car.

I have spoken to Renault and now been sold a Hinge Door CL (7701468331) to adapt the hinge for the replacement door.

My question is - has anyone used this adaptor before, or at least come across this discrepancy in hinge types on the same year/model of car?

I don't want to get the car back for a few days, take it to the bodyshop only to be told it's still not the right adaptor/door etc.....

Re: Door Hinges- Clio

Hello n wellcome.

Bought a spare door?
A 2nd hand used one then?

Your friend is probably in a rush to have the car back working properly again, but I dont follow the door-hinge adapter sequence. This adapter alone if direct from renault must have cost a few pennies.
Can you not source a correct type door from the original supplier? or get money back and source it elsewhere ..even thru the door fitter and presumeably gonna have to paint it also guy?

q. on the hinge adapter.. Ive no idea ,strange there would even be such a part unless there was a v limited production run on a faulty door design..
Maybe there will be a response from someone who knows more

Re: Door Hinges- Clio

Thanks Coup.

I am so confused but bought the hinge kit as a back up plan - 44-00 and I can return it.
The second hand door I bought is immaculate and the right colour so no need to paint in -but I think it will still be cheaper to buy another door with correct hinge rather than pay to have adaptor welded on.

You're quite right though - it is strange that the hinge is different and no one seems to know why and there isn't a specific name for the two different types (which would help when trying to source!)

I'll take the additional door to a brakers nearby to see if they'll even give me pennies for it (paid 60).
