Clio 2 bonnet catch replacement-how to?

My sisters bonnet catch has failed. I managed to get it closed with some fettling, but once open, it just refuses to catch properly and hangs on secondary catch. This scares me, and I've heard over peoples experience.

So I am going to replace it as soon as. I have a found the part, but how difficult is this to do and anything to look out for?

I'm competent at fixing cars, just not with the car now, and only will be when I travel up to do repair.

Many thanks!

Re: Clio 2 bonnet catch replacement-how to?

If it's the same on phase1 and 2, I think it's a fairly straight forward swap.

For phase2
There are 2 bolts on top of the slam panel to remove the lock.
The lock has a sliding bar which is pushed aside by the striker bolt on the bonnet.
Once the tapered head of the bolt passes the sliding bar, spring pressure should force to bar to lock behind the head of the striker and keep bonnet closed.
If the bar is not sliding as it should, the bonnet will pop back up.
There is some sideways movement of the lock for adjustment.
As long as the striker hits the hole central, that's fine.
If the bonnet isn't shutting down enough, the head of the striker won't go behind the bar.
There might be some adjustment on the striker bolt. Some will unscrew to make it longer.
If there is no slot in the striker bolt to turn it with a screwdriver, try marking the position of the plate and remove it to see if there is a nut on the back that locks it into place.

A good lube of the old lock and a bit of adjustment might bring it back to life.

Everything should become obvious if you look at the new lock and the striker, when you are with the car.
