Sorting out wheel archers

Unfortunatly both my back wheel archers on my M reg laguna are basicly crumbaling away lucaly only on the lip at the moment it has not started attacking the outer pannel yet (the bit people can see) Thank god!!

Can anyone recomend the best action to take next?? Thanks Richard!!

PS. Also considering buying a new laguna the one I have seen is a 2L RT on a R plate in white, Its got Air con, Electric windows, and spoiler from what i can see, But i will really miss my electric sunroof!!
The garage wants £795 for it, Is it a good price or not??

I think they all have electric sunroofs don't they?

Not sure what to do about the archliners though.

With the wheel arches: Do you want them to look good as new, or just stop them getting any worse?

If it's the former, then unless you're prepared to experiment with filler and a paint can, or ripping out and refitting panels, then you're going to have to farm it out.

If it's the latter, then I'd settle for flaking off any obvious loose paint and daubing on decent quanities of Kurust (available at Halfords amongst other places.) That should at least stop the rot from getting worse. Be sure to treat the inside of the arch as well as just the visible rust.

For the replacement car: Why not hold out for an RXE? As far as I'm aware, these always had the sunroof. If you can stretch to a phase 2 model (starting at S reg, or possibly even very late R) then you got 4 electric windows, climate rather than air-con, alloys and the rather nifty looking rear spoiler too. The design also looks that bit fresher, thanks to the facelift.

They may have introduced some of these changes earlier, mind you. I'm just comparing my M reg phase 1 RXE with my S reg phase 2 RXE.

A good coating of underseal once the rust has been treated will also help to limit the spread of corrosion within the arches - this is a job best undertaken with the wheel off to allow for greater access.

This job should never be complete - the day I think I've done it all, is the day I resign.

doesnt matter how good the bodyshop repairing the arches is once rust has set in it in there for good, only way to stop it is to cut out the area including some of the good metal then plate the effected areas then wax oil
