DEEJAY,am I right in thinking that you can't really fill a roof any sense?.I was told that as the roof changes temperature you can see the ripples in it as the filler expands and contracts at different rates to the metal roof........
I got the job of stripping and fitting a roof re-skin on a 406 estate......bl00dy nightmare!!
It's nice to finally have a bodyshop expert on the forum,by the way!
this is new to me, the only thing ive seen is under some extreme conditions is the filler cracking, ive never come across the filler expanding(not that im saying your wrong, ive just never seen it) also if the filler is mixed wrongly (ie to much hardner) you get whats called bleeding, where the repair area will bleed through the base coat, discolouring the paint work,
you can repair a roof no problems there, as for the 406 was it the glued headcloth? a lot of pugs were bonded on making it a nightmare to remove with out rippling the headcloth
