I would suspect you either have to remove the wheel arch liner or the boot liner to access the wirng connections, etc.

Managed to solve the problem, the unit was seated with 4 clips that could be released with a nylon bread spread knife. This was obvious when looking at the replacement unit. New problem is that the solenoid is not moving when locking/unlocking the doors so I assume the motor is broken. Any tips around this are very welcome. I've found some hints on french Renault sites, but my french is not that good and Google-translate does not always help. :-)
