The whole unit is held in place by 2 torx screws and one hex screw. I had trouble accessing the last bolt (couldn't even find it at first ) but then realised it was in the most obvious place - when you fold the mirror you can access it from below. You will need a long 8mm allen key for it - sockets didn't work as the hole wasn't wide enough. Oh, and you need to remove the dash speaker to disconnect the wiring from the mirror.
Did it on Sunday.
i paid £29.99 + £15 post off ebay .
i already had some metallic silver spray around £4.99 and clear lacquer £4.99 , had some 400 grade paper already.

when i started stripping the broken casing off (similar damage as yours) i thought it would be easier just to change the casing without taking the whole thing of the car.
It was.

i first washed the casing with washing up liquid and warm water. dried it off a left it to sit in the sun for 15 mins.

sanded it down, washed it down again, dried it. put on top of the cooker to warm up a little. Took it back to the shed hung it on a screw with string and sprayed the silver straight on, gave it about 4 coats and changed the position of the screw to allow more even coverage each time.
left it 30 mins to dry then took back into the house to warm it on the cooker again. nice and warm took it to the shed and hung it up again and gave it a few coats of lacquer.
after 20 mins on top of the cooker again it was dry.

i went out and took the old casing off and put the new one on. perfect every one
